Collaboratively promote the green and low-carbon transformation of the steel industry

2024-09-19

Promoting green and low-carbon economic and social development is a key link in achieving high-quality development. my country has set the goal of striving to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, and has made a series of relevant work arrangements to comprehensively promote green and low-carbon transformation and development.

Actively and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and accelerate the creation of a green and low-carbon supply chain. Facing the arduous task of reducing emissions, we must make great efforts to promote the optimization and upgrading of traditional industries such as steel, chemicals, and building materials, and accelerate low-carbon process innovation and digital transformation in the industrial field.

Since the "dual carbon" goal was proposed, my country has continuously improved its green and low-carbon technology innovation system, strengthened green and low-carbon technology research, promoted technology research and development and achievement transformation, and achieved remarkable results.

Especially in clean energy, new power systems, energy storage, energy saving, energy recovery, carbon capture and storage, etc., it has accumulated rich technology and formed a first-mover advantage. It has initially developed a relatively complete green and low-carbon technology layout, laying the foundation for vigorous development. Green and low-carbon economy provides favorable conditions for promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of industrial structure and energy structure.

The steel industry is the basic industry that supports the national economy and is also the industrial sector with the largest carbon emissions among the manufacturing categories.

For a long time, the steel industry has provided an important guarantee for my country's economic development, social progress and improvement of people's livelihood. At the same time, advanced steel materials can also provide raw material support for my country's ultra-large-scale infrastructure construction, modern equipment manufacturing and other fields.

The key position of the steel industry in the industrial chain makes its green and low-carbon transformation not only related to its own sustainable development, but also plays an important role in the overall carbon reduction of the manufacturing industry.

Promoting the green and low-carbon transformation and development of the steel industry should not only meet the demand for steel products in relevant fields of the national economy, but also enable the steel industry to operate in a more low-carbon manner.

The first is to coordinate the relationship between long-term goals and short-term goals. According to the characteristics of different stages, the coupled development of short-term technological innovation and long-term technological progress will be promoted in an orderly manner.

The second is to coordinate the relationship between the whole and the parts. The steel industry is highly related to the upstream raw material processing industry and the downstream construction, machinery, transportation and other industries. It is necessary to consider how to achieve coordinated emission reduction among industries, departments and regions.

The third is to properly handle the relationship between the government and the market. Adhere to the combination of government guidance and market mechanisms to form a complete incentive system to encourage low-carbon technology innovation. In addition, efforts should be made from multiple aspects such as policy, technology, and management.

In general, promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the steel industry is a systematic project, which needs to be placed within the framework of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality for the whole society, and overall consideration should be given to industry and regional collaboration, upstream and downstream of the industrial chain Collaboration, policy, technology and management synergy to promote the realization of carbon neutrality goals.
